Measure the fit

Length from the hitch to the back of the trailer or the tailgate
Width across the mudguards
Height of any cage, canopy or load
Jockey wheel height, so the hitch clears the door when you wheel it in

Protect it

Wash off salt, mud and garden waste
Grease the bearings and hitch
Fit a hitch lock as well as locking the unit
Use the jockey wheel and chock the wheels so it can't roll

Store more than the trailer

A unit is 9 m by 3.5 m, so most trailers leave plenty of room around them. Shelving along the walls turns the rest of the unit into a garage for camping gear, garden tools or a boat's spare parts.
