How much does storage cost in Christchurch?

The main cost drivers

• Size. The biggest factor. Price per square metre usually drops as the unit gets bigger.
• Length of stay. Many operators charge less per month for longer commitments.
• Type of unit. Drive-up units and units with tall doors for vehicles and boats cost more than standard ones.
• Demand. Units fill up around the end of the month and over summer, when people move.

Costs people forget

• A good padlock, usually a disc or closed-shackle lock
• Contents insurance for goods in storage
• A deposit or bond, if the operator asks for one
• Moving costs to and from the unit, including truck or trailer hire
• Packing materials: cartons, tape, wrap and covers
• Pallets or shelving to keep things off the floor
